What is the difference between market and insurance value?

Simply put, market value is the value that a willing buyer will pay a willing seller for a specific asset. An example would be a house price that is negotiated between these two parties with both equally informed and not pressured externally. This is determined by various methods such as comparable sales, the investment value of an income-producing asset and the depreciated value of new assets.

Insurance value pertains to the cost of replacing an asset in the event of it being damaged as an example. Let’s say that a property is destroyed by fire, the insurance company requires the insured party to be correctly insured in order to pay for the replacement of the said asset. We assist in determining accurate replacement cost to avoid future disputes or rejection of claims in the event of damage or losses suffered.
